Writing competitions

Writing isn’t going so well these past few days. The move has taken me out of my routine and I find it hard to get back into it. I think I have only written about 1000 words in three days, whereas my goal is 2000 per day. I even missed the deadline for the Mslexia short story competition, which I am really bummed out about as it only comes around once a year and the prize is really good. But I didn’t want to enter a half baked story which I knew wouldn’t win. I did enter the Mslexia flash fiction competition, so that is at least something. I Love My Body

If you follow me on Twitter, you will be aware that I am moving house. (I promise I will stop moaning about it soon.) As part of the house move, I flipped through some old pictures from my student years and damn! I was so young and skinny. My immediate reaction was, ‘I wish I still had that body’. Scarlett O’Hara: Heroine

My favourite book of all time is Gone With the Wind. I realise that it has its issues, not the least of which its problematic portrayal of slavery. However, it also gave me my favourite heroine. Ever since I read the book for the first time at the tender age of 16, I have been in love with Scarlett O’Hara. It never once occurred to me that other people might not like her as much as I.
