It has been two years since I said goodbye to my readers. At the time, I was burned out for all sorts of reasons and blogging didn’t give me the satisfaction and happiness it had first given me, so it seemed right to draw a line underneath it all. But lately, especially with the imminent demise of Twitter, I’ve felt the itch to resurrect the old blog, so here we are.
When I first set up this blog, it was to be a space where I could express my thoughts about sexuality and sex. I loved finally being able to talk freely about sex, and when I started reviewing sex toys, a world opened up for me. Even to this day, I am so grateful I had the chance to test so many awesome (and some really bad) sex toys. It wasn’t until I started this blog that I tried sex toys and it has made my life SO much better – and more enjoyable!
But somewhere along the line, I fell into the trap of thinking I needed to monetise my blog. I felt I needed to be able to make money blogging – if not from blogging itself, then from the writing opportunities which would surely arise from people reading my blog. When that didn’t happen, and when I saw bloggers who started around the same time as I becoming financially successful from blogging, I became frustrated, which I think contributed to the burnout.
I’m now a bit older, and hopefully a bit wiser as well. I realise that my blog is just a hobby. My place to vent, to chat about whatever’s on my mind, to join in with memes and to post sexy pictures when I feel like it. Such as the picture in this post, which was taken by the amazing Molly Moore during an outdoor photo shoot. [In the original, my face isn’t blurred, but I like to maintain a bit of anonymity on my blog, hence the blurring.] I’ll probably do another blog post about that experience (spoiler: it was awesome). I’m not interested in monetising my blog anymore. Not every hobby needs to be turned into a side gig. Some things can just be a fun hobby.
I’m still writing erotica, some of which is published at Amazon (see sidebar for those books), some on Medium and some on Literotica. I mostly write on Lit lately, to be honest. I’m not good at writing the shorter stories that seem to be popular on Medium and although I do love writing novels, I’m currently working on some non-erotic romances, so I don’t have a lot of time to write erotic novels. Having said that, I did finish an erotic novel a couple of months ago, so once I have time to edit it, I’ll publish it.
So yeah, I’m back. I may not blog as much as before the big reset, but you’ll get what you’ll get. I’m not going to put pressure on myself as I don’t want to burn out again. I tweeted the other day that I kind of missed reviewing sex toys, so I may dabble in that at some point, but it would probably reviews of toys I already have. When I think of my sex toy reviewing days I only think of the hours spent masturbating and conveniently forget about the time it takes to take good pictures and write a good review. So maybe I’ll just “test” some toys and then never write about them…
