Today is International Women’s Day and I want to take this opportunity to celebrate women. Women are amazing and I truly feel that times are changing and we are getting closer to obtaining equal rights.
Many International Women’s Day posts celebrate women from history, or women in people’s lives who have made (and are still making) a difference. Mothers, grandmothers, aunts. I, too, would like to highlight some women who have made an impression on me during my lifetime (and who still inspire me).
There is my auntie, who is the kindest, most humble person I have ever met. She is in her seventies now and retired, but she was a successful business woman when she was younger, when I grew up. She never got married, or had children and always treated me and my siblings as her kids. She taught me from a young age that, despite what my mother had taught me, you don’t need a man to be successful or happy.
There is my sister-in-law, who was right about feminism all along. I was still too brainwashed when I was in uni to see how right she was about women’s rights and I am grateful that she never gave up on me (and that she didn’t say “I told you so” when I finally had my feminist awakening). She is one of the bravest women I know, being a single mum by choice and raising a wonderful son.
There is my own sister who was brave enough to recognise that her marriage wasn’t working and had the courage to get out before it was too late. I am proud of her to acknowledge that good sex is important and that she deserves to be treated better.
And then there are my fellow sex bloggers and who have supported me when I started blogging and who have opened my eyes to a different way of living. Without all you ladies’ support I could never have done this and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and patience and love. I won’t name you all, as I would certainly miss someone off and that would be a disaster, but you know who you are. And I will get to see some of you at Eroticon, which is so amazing!
