I always feel bad when I have to write a negative review of a sex toy. Especially if it is a universally loved sex toy which has been kindly sent to me by the company itself. In the interest of full disclosure, the company contacted me for a review, I didn’t ask for the toy. Nevertheless, here is my review of the Satisfyer Pro Penguin.
Satisfyer sent me two of their products: the Satisfyer Pro 2 and the Satisfyer Pro Penguin. I didn’t get on with the Satisfyer Pro 2 immediately, but I ended the review by saying I was confident that over time I would learn to love the toy. Having tried the Satisfyer Pro Penguin, I am not so sure anymore.
The particulars
Like the Satisfyer Pro 2, the Satisfyer Pro Penguin is a sex toy which works with suction rather than vibration. It work by placing the nozzle over your clit, ensuring there is a vacuum around the nozzle and your clit nestles into the mouth of the penguin. Then turn it on, lay back and relax. The Satisfyer Pro Penguin is fully waterproof and I did try it in bath, which seemed to work a bit better.
The Satisfyer Pro Penguin needs to be charged when it arrives. It is charged by a USB charger which connects with magnetics. I didn’t find the charging a problem, I usually charge my toys out of sight in a place where they can’t be bumped so I have not experienced any issues with it losing its connection.
The toy is also not particularly loud, especially not when it is attached to your clit. It has 11 settings, which are levels of intensity of the suction. It is made of body safe silicone and to be honest, the Penguin looks extremely cute. You wouldn’t even be embarrassed leaving it out on your night stand.
What did I think of it?
I already gave the game away in the beginning of the review: I did not really like this toy. A lot of women rave about this toy saying that they came hard within minutes and there I was, lying in bed for half an hour with this thing attached to me unable to orgasm. I was only able to orgasm after stimulating my vulva with a bullet vibrator. After my experience with the Pro 2 I thought I knew what I was doing, but although it didn’t hurt, I can’t say that the experience was pleasurable either. The orgasm, when it finally did come, was definitely a big one, leaving me shuddering and spent, but it was not enjoyable. I like some build up of pleasure before the big hit and I did not get that with the Satisfyer Pro Penguin.
Why did I not get on with it?
I have spent a long time wondering why I did not get on with the Satisfyer Pro Penguin. I love my clitoris stimulated, so that can’t be the issue. My favourite sex toys are bullet vibrators which I direct straight to my clit. So why do I not like suction? And moreover, why do most women report that level 5 or 6 of the Penguin is already enough to make them scream while I don’t even really feel anything at level 8 or 9? What is wrong with me?
First off, nothing is wrong with me. My body is just different than those of the women whose reviews I read. And that is why it is important I do write my negative review. If I can show other women who don’t get on with this toy that it’s not them, that they are not alone, then I am happy. I wish I had read some less enthusiastic reviews, so I could feel less like a weirdo for not liking this toy.
As luck would have it, I attended a class at the Sh! Women Store last Thursday which was about female ejaculation with the amazing Dorrie Lane (she makes the vulva puppets). Dorrie explained about the clitoris and how it’s more than just the little nub we usually think of. There are clitoral legs that run along our vulva which create amazing pleasure when stimulated. I will write a longer post about that at a later date, but something really clicked for me then. While I like my clitoral gland (which is what it is called) stimulated, I get the most pleasure from having my whole clitoris, including the clitoral legs, stimulated. Which is why I prefer broader vibrators which can stimulate my whole vulva rather than a toy that focuses solely on my clitoral gland. I mean, why limit myself to just one tiny part of the clitoris?
This is the reason I don’t get on as much with the Satisfyer Pro Penguin. Just having the nub of my clitoris stimulated limits the amount of pleasure and build up for me and while I do get an orgasm with the Penguin eventually, it is less satisfying than when I orgasm with the help of a vibrator.
In conclusion
The Satisfyer Pro Penguin is a very popular toy. A lot of women love it and can get amazing orgasms in no time at all with it. Unfortunately I am not among those women. My body just does not seem to get on with stimulation only focused on the clitoral gland. My whole vulva and clitoris likes to get involved, so I think I will stick with pebble vibrators or bullet vibrators I can move up and down my vulva. However, if you are someone who loves to have pinpoint stimulation on your clitoris, you will probably love the Satisfyer Pro Penguin.
I am very grateful to Satisfyer for sending me this toy and the Pro 2. I have been very curious to see what the fuss was about and while I didn’t get on with these toys in particular, I learned more about myself and about what I like. That is the great thing about testing sex toys: I really get to know my body well. And that is never a bad thing.
