All right. I’m finally able to review the Hot Octopuss DiGiT! I’ve had this little toy for a while, but I wanted to test it thoroughly before reviewing it. And then I went on holiday as well, so this review is well overdue. Before we dig in, I want to disclose that the pictures I am using in this review are Hot Octopuss’s pictures. They kindly supplied them and as I’m not a great photographer, I thought I’d use them rather than try to take my own.
The Hot Octopuss DiGiT is an innovative new sex toy that can be worn on your finger. It is sculpted so that your finger nestles easily in the back of the vibrator. Hot Octopuss says on their website that the DiGiT “becomes an extension of your body”. It is rechargeable, fully waterproof and made of body safe silicone. I was a bit confused as to whether it is truly waterproof, because the charging port is open and visible, but that’s how it’s supposed to be. I can vouch that it’s truly waterproof.
A double loop at the base of the Hot Octopuss DiGiT allows you to wear the vibrator like a ring. This makes it very easy to use for clitoral stimulation during partnered sex, although you can, of course, also use the vibrator during solo sex. During solo sex, I usually have more room between my legs (because my partner isn’t there), so I can use bigger vibrators for clitoral stimulation. When I have sex with my partner, the Hot Octopuss DiGiT is almost as unobtrusive as using my fingers, but with an extra zing.
I have had mixed experiences with Hot Octopuss products. I really didn’t like the Queen Bee, but I did really like the Pulse III Duo. The Hot Octopuss DiGiT got rave reviews, though, from sex bloggers I respect, so I had high expectations. Some bloggers favourably compared it to the We Vibe Tango, another bullet vibrator I really love. I was therefore very excited to try it. The We Vibe Tango is great for clitoral stimulation, but because it’s so narrow, it’s sometimes tricky to hold on to during partnered sex. Having a vibe that slips on my fingers would help with that, I thought.
As I said in the beginning, I tested the hell out of this toy. I tried it in the shower, in the morning, in the evening, when I was really horny and when I was just masturbating to relax. My partner used it on me and I used it during partnered sex. I really tried my hardest with this toy. But, alas, it was all in vain. I just did not get on with it.
There is nothing objectively bad about the toy. In fact, I think it’s an amazing design which is truly revolutionary, like all of Hot Octopuss’s products. Of all the sex toy companies out there, Hot Octopuss is the one that manages to blow me away with each new design they produce. I’m always excited to see what new thing they come up with. Their products are gorgeous and fun and I like that I often go “what the hell is that?” when I see their toys.
That’s why I’m so disappointed that the toy didn’t really work with me. Especially since I can’t really point at why it doesn’t work. I don’t normally test sex toys in absolutely every setting imaginable, but I was determined to find out why I didn’t get on with the Hot Octopuss DiGiT. The things I do for research!
I have to admit that after many futile attempts to have an orgasm with the help of the Hot Octopuss DiGiT, I started to feel like I was broken. Why was it that so many sex bloggers, women I know and trust, loved this toy so much and yet I hadn’t been able to get even one small orgasm with it? What was wrong with me?
Of course nothing’s wrong with me. We are all different and have different needs and wants. Just because one sex blogger compares the Hot Octopuss DiGiT to the We Vibe Tango doesn’t mean that it is exactly the same, or that those who love the Tango will love the DiGiT.
During partnered sex, I found it hard to get good stimulation on my clit with the DiGiT. It’s not because I prefer pinpoint stimulation, which the DiGiT does not provide, because I have several broad stimulation vibrators that can get me off wonderfully during partnered sex. I think it’s because I didn’t find the vibrations of this toy very strong.
That remained the issue for solo sex as well, and also when my partner tried the toy on me. Despite promising rumbly vibrations, I was underwhelmed by the depth and strength of the vibrations. Sure, it’s definitely rumbly rather than buzzy, but not deep and strong enough for me. Maybe if the tip of the Hot Octopuss DiGiT was pointier it would have worked for me. With broad stimulation I need very deep rumbly vibrations to get me off, and the DiGiT just failed to provide this.
I have another couple of niggles with the DiGiT. I found the buttons very fiddly. The On/Off button doesn’t always work for me as it seems you have to press it just so in order for it to work. The buttons on the other side to adjust the speed and setting are also a bit fiddly (particularly because they are just indents in the silicone and not easy to feel). I also would have liked a bit more play in the finger loops as my partner’s fingers are quite thick and he couldn’t fit the loops all the way over his fingers.
However, despite the lack of orgasm, neither my clit and vulva, nor the Hot Octopuss DiGiT are broken or defective. Sometimes you’re just not compatible. I still maintain that the DiGiT is an amazing toy. It may not have worked for me, but that doesn’t mean we can’t remain friends. And considering the amount of rave reviews of this toy, my experience is not common, so don’t let this review dissuade you. I always endeavour to give my honest opinion on the toy, but it’s only my opinion.
